Downward Movement of Top

Once the upper building section began to move downwards, the weakened structure in the impact and fire zone was not able to absorb the tremendous energy of the falling building section and global collapse ensued.
(p 144-5/194-5)

NIST:

  • Fails to explain how how the downward movement started, given that most of the columns were still in the way. It implies the downward movement was esssentially free-fall.
  • Provides no calculation about the ammount of force the "falling building section" acquired before the first impact.
  • Provides no illustrations of its computer models showing downward movement.
  • Has refused to publish its computer models.
