Letters to the Editor
Austin American-Statesman

September 17, 2006

Dear Editor,

Jonah Goldberg's op-ed "Dark theories undermining our patriotism," starting
from its very title, would be laughable if the issues were not so compelling.
Have the professional standards of journalism truly sunk to the point so far
that personal insults, sarcasm, and self-contradiction are allowed to stand
in place of rational argument? "Air of reason," indeed.

Patriotism is loyalty to one's country and its people as a whole, not to
leaders who have committed high crimes and misdemeanors.

Evidence for complicity in 9/11 by a tiny number of officials and operatives
in the US government is overwhelming. Probably most persuasive are the videos
of the total, free-fall collapse of WTC 7 at 5:20 p.m.
A Dutch expert has expressed his astonished agreement with the 9/11 skeptics
that WTC 7 was demolished with explosives
( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uqrn5x2_f6Q&NR ; full documentary at
http://omroep.vara.nl/tvradiointernet_detail.jsp?maintopic=424&subtopic ).
If World Trade Center 7 was rigged for demolition in advance, it would
indicate foreknowledge by private and government interests in NY and
Washington. The NIST report ignores WTC 7 and doesn't even try to explain
the symmetry, rapidity, explosiveness, and destructiveness of the Twin Tower
collapses -- features that can only be explained by the use of explosives
and thermite.

The few poor arguments for official complicity arguments don't invalidate
the many good ones.

Cover-ups do happen

Re: Sept. 17 column by Jonah Goldberg,
 "Dark theories undermining our patriotism"

Goldberg used straw-man arguments in his attempt to ridicule conspiracies.
His other trick was declaring whistle-blowers nonexistent.

Let's not forget the Gulf of Tonkin, or that President Nixon ordered a
huge domestic spy effort, or Swiss Holocaust profits, or Nazi war criminals
living safely in Argentina and Canada, or the Tuskegee experiments or that
Big Tobacco lied.

If crucial evidence in those cases could be kept secret for decades,
so can evidence of other executive-branch conspiracies.

If the tobacco industry, and the Argentine, Swiss, Canadian and U.S.
governments kept enormous conspiracies secret for 30, 40 and 50 years,
the U.S. government and its military-industrial complex can, and does,
do far more.
