The 2001 Anthrax Attacks as Adjuct to the 9/11 Attack
When the FBI and Justice Department declared its investigation of the 2001 anthrax attacks concluded in August of 2008, the most salient facts of the incident were difficult to find in mainstream media coverage. These facts include:
- The targets of the first batch of letters, sent just one week after the mass murder of 9/11/2001, were the network news anchors -- the individuals with greatest influence in shaping public perception of the attack.
- The targets of the second batch of letters were Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy and Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschel -- the two key Senators who were attempting to amend the USA PATRIOT Act to protect civil liberties and the innocent.
- The House and Senate buildings were closed, and reopened only after the USA PATRIOT Act was passed.
- The Supreme Court was closed the day after the USA PATRIOT Act was signed by President Bush.
- The anthrax in the letters was weaponised in Utah.
